Iron Man: Hypervelocity #5 of 6

Iron-Man: Hypervelocity #5 of 6 An Iron Man miniseries completely unrelated to current continuity, I picked up the first issue of Hypervelocity because it was a slow Wednesday at the comic store, and the second issue because I hate only having one issue of something, and the third issue because I realized I actually liked this a lot, and, well, here we are.

Tony Stark is apparently mortally wounded, and his new experimental protocols kick and download a copy of his consciousness into his armor. “Ghost Tony”, the A.I. version of Tony now self aware inside the armor, needs to track down who orchestrated the attack that put Tony out of commission, deal with a malevolent A.I. fighting for control of the armor, and survive a S.H.I.E.L.D. “manhunt” as an eager general tries repeatedly to take him out, believing the armor to have gone rogue.

The dialog is sharp, the techno-babble stays just this side of cheesey, the plot is clever, the pacing is quick, and the artist, Brian Denham, can draw machines. His humans need work, but from the mechanized S.H.I.E.L.D. forces to the Tokyo-loglo-styled assassins, this title is a perfect match for his strengths. It’s a solid title that easily takes my pick for best of the week in a light week, but would rank pretty high even with more competition.
