Carry on my wayward son.
52 #25
Action Comics #844
An excellent comic, my only complaint is circumstantial: aren’t we going through the same story over in Batman? It’s a weak connection, everything seems to be handled completely different, but the crux is “Wow, ____man has a son!” Odd timing. Also, DC is making a big deal about Richard Donner’s involvement, but I don’t know how to tell how much credit is due with Geoff Johns credited as well. The good news is you shouldn’t be buying it for the Donner hype anyway, you should be buying it because it’s a beautifully illustrated Superman story that’s off to a good start.
Justice #8 (of 12)
Pacing is finally taking its toll; this feels like a recap issue. I should have waited for the inevitable trade.
New Avengers #24
Ooooh, dreamy! Lovely art, uninteresting story. Give me Iron Man’s story please.
Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. #9
All setup and no payoff by normal comic standards, but wacky ideas (in the form of character designs here) and perfect art make every panel of Nextwave its own payoff. It’s not too late, buy Nextwave! I mean, I don’t know, maybe it is too late. Can you still track down back issues at your local store? I hope so! I mean, I don’t know, I guess I hope not, that would mean it’s been selling welll. Can I keep this gag going? I hope so! I mean, I don’t know.
Superman/Batman Annual #1
I understand why people might not like this, but it’s got Deadpool (only not) and the best art I’ve ever seen on a title with so many credited artists. That (and my oft lamented low threshold for purchasing in general) is enough for me. This probably isn’t a good jumping on point for Superman/Batman, but if you liked Loeb’s run, you’ll get some laughs out of this.
